EVENT: Men at Work Ladies night

Last night I was invited to a ladies night organised by Men at Work together with I love Fashion News. This ladies night was in every store from Men at Work in the Netherlands. I attended the event in Maastricht. It turned out to be  very relaxed night.

Several boots covered the store. First of all there was a photo wall, see the pictures below. The most eccentric booth was a tattoo artist. One person got tattooed for real. My favourite was Marjolein with her delicious cupcakes and other sweets.

A real ladies night isn't complete with some bubbles off course, so I sipped down some cavas as well. Two employees from the store performed some songs. And to top things off, there was a 20% discount during the whole evening. I finally found a fedora, it seems like I've been searching for the perfect one like forever. I can't wait to show you my fedora during one of the outfit posts. I also bought this shirt from Eleven Paris, let me know whether you like it or not.

At the end of the night we all went home with a goodiebag. This bag included a cute necklace, a pastel pink nail polish and a copy of the magazine Glamour. Thanks to Men at Work for a lovely night.

A spring wedding

Spring season means wedding season. As a grown-up I haven't been invited to a wedding so far. I can't wait for one of my friends to get married just to experience a wedding for once. It would be a good excuse to buy an over the top dress as well.

Off course that also raises the question: "What should one wear to a wedding?". This depends which your role is in this wedding; are you the bride, a bridesmaid or a normal guest. Today I'll give you some inspiration on how to dress for a wedding party.

The bride

I'm not at a point in my life where I'm considering marriage seriously. But which girl doesn't dream about a wedding gown every now and then. In this dream I'm wearing a Valentino gown and lots of golden (no, not silver) accessories and off course a headband or tiara.

dress: Valentino Spring Couture
headband: Dolce & Gabbana
shoes: Jimmy Choo
bracelet: Swarovski
earrings: Tiffany&Co.

The bridesmaid

If you've got the honor to be a bridesmaid this season, you should definitely choose a pastel dress. Although the bride will probably decide which colour you will wear, pink seems like the perfect choice.

dress: BCBG Maxazria
necklace: New Look
shoes: Steve Madden
clutch: Asos

Guest of the wedding

As a guest of the wedding you can basically wear anything as long as it's appropriate for the dress code and preferably not white. Some people might not agree with me, but I really think to only one who's allowed to wear white on a wedding day is the bride. If you're just a normal guest of the wedding, you can buy a dress which will still be wearable after the wedding party.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Happy birthday Sarah Jessica Parker aka Carrie Bradshaw

Yesterday one of the biggest style influencers celebrated her 49th birthday. Off course I'm talking about Sarah Jessica Parker. The mother of 3 has a busy year behind her; from performing in a broadway musical to designing her own shoe line for Nordstrom.

All of this is small stuff compared to her groundbreaking role in Sex and the City. SJC plays the character of Carrie Bradshow, a shoe addict and writer living in New York. Her life is all about her three best friends, fashion and men.

Carried Bradshaw wore some iconic outfits over the years but here are some of my favourites.

John Galliano newspaper dress

Wearing Sonia Rykiel in Paris, it doesn't get any better than this.

If you want to dress up and go to McDonalds, you should totally do so.

A mix and match of high and low. Sometimes you wonder how certain combinations work, but this one works.

The Eiffel Tower bag by Timmy Woods is probably the most famous bags being used during the series.

This outfit could easily be spotted on every streetstyle website. If you want to be stylish, combine a maxi skirt with a statement shirt.

You can never go wrong with Dolce & Gabbana

One of the looks during Sex and the City the movie. You can clearly tell that Carrie has changed.

Sarah Jessica Parker, this would be the perfect dress to celebrate your birthday in!

REVIEW: Celluli Laser Size Code from Biotherm

As promised I will be reviewing a skincare or beauty product each week. This week it's time for one my favourite products; the Celluli Laser Size Code from Biotherm. This product targets to improve the fat-prone areas from your body.

What it promises to do:

"Designed to specifically target the loss of firmness associated with the mid-section. Skin is left looking smoother and feeling firmer. "

Ingredients:

Caffeine, pomegranate seed oil, lotus extract, green coffee extract, a Yerba Mate extract. Gingko Biloba

Application:

"Spread the product over your stomach, waist and hips, making clockwise circles following the direction of transit."

My own experience:

My problem areas are my stomach and thighs. I try to use this product all year round but especially right before the summer season kicks in. The gel is orange like and feels a bit cold when you apply it to your skin. I don't notice a specific or annoying scent. The gel dries up quite quickly but a sticky feeling remains. Therefore I advise you to use this gel right before you get to bed and when you've got your pajamas on.

The manuall advises you to apply it twice a day. I only do it once because often I don't have more time plus this product is quite expensive (€ 32,00/150ml). If you really want to invest time, the manual includes some massages which you can use to apply the Celluli Laser Size Code.

The package is bright blue/green with a silver husk. This gives it a very modern look. Somehow this improves the credibility from the product.

Now the mother of all questions: Does this product help? Yes after about a week I started to notice a slimming effect on my stomach. My mother uses this product as well and she agrees about the effect. My stomach looks tighter and less "bubbly". I'm really a fan of this product and will keep on using it.

Have you tried out this gel yet? Or do you use any other product that has a slimming effect?

OUTFIT: A touch of red

In between two rain showers my mum and I quickly did a new outfit shoot. The location I first had in mind wasn't available today so we drove around for a bit and discovered this ancient church and farmhouse next to each other.

I think the location turned out to be great. We did have like only 10 minutes between two rain showers. Keeping that in mind the pictures are quite allright as well. On our way back home I discovered a nice pound as well which will serve as a location for future shoots.

For the outfit I chose for a dress from Liu Jo which I wore for going out this week. I bought this dress a couple of years ago because it reminded me a lot of the designs of Hervé Leger. In my younger years I was completely obsessed with this brand but unfortunately this brand is a bit out of my budget range.

I completed the look with a red blazer from Zara. I have the same blazer in black, yellow and orange. This model from blazer is so comfortable and not stiff like most blazers. The Louis Vuitton bag is from my mother. It's not a model I would buy myself but it won't hurt to use it like once, twice,...

My favourite part from this outfit are my Christian Louboutin shoes. I bought them some years ago at The Corner during a city trip to Berlin. Back then Christian Louboutin shoes weren't available in my size in Belgium so I was over the moon to find this pair. I only wear them like twice a year when I'm absolutely sure I can sit the whole night or there is a carpet on the floor so the shoes don't get damaged.

So let me know what you think about my outfit.

I'm wearing:

dress: Liu Jo
blazer: Zara
shoes: Christian Louboutin
bag: Louis Vuitton

Yves Saint Laurent: The movie

Like any other fashion addict, I'm always excited when a fashion themed movie is being realized in the cinema. On 10th April it's that time again. One of the most iconic designers ever, Yves Saint Laurent, gets his life turned in a biopic. And let's be honest, there's a story there. Yves Saint Laurent was an innovative designer. He dressed women in masculine suits and mixed couture with plastic accessories. His private life was very tumultuous as well; drugs, alcohol and parties were no rarity to YSL.

The movie is shot by Jalil Lespert and is about the early years of YSL's life. Apparently Pierre Bergé, Yves Saint Laurent's life partner, was moved to tears by this picture. The movie starts in French Algeria, the birth country from YSL. We see the young version from Yves Saint Laurent drawing in his childhood room. In the next scenes we see YSL working for Christian Dior and replacing the latter after his sudden dead.

During a society party Saint Laurent meets the man of his life: Pierre Bergé, who would become his life partner until YSL's death in 2008. This makes from this movie a love story as well. Bergé helps Yves Saint Laurent with the creation of his own fashion house but needs to pick him up as well after yet another exhausting fashion season.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. It's always interesting to get a view behind the scenes and find out who's the face behind a fashion house. Most designers are quite eccentric so they often a very interesting life stories as well. Underneath you can find some pictures and the trailer. Will you go to the cinema to watch this movie?

H&M Conscious exclusive collection

If there's one chain shop that really invests in conscious fashion, it's H&M. For some years now, they have a conscious collection available in their stores. Since about a year you can bring your old clothes to a collecting box and get a gift certificate of € 10,00.

If you think conscious fashion is boring, think again. On 10th April H&M will launch a normal and an exclusive conscious collection. The exclusive collection will introduce us to two new fabrics: biological leather and biological silk. H&M will also show us how you can wash your clothes on an environmental friendly basis.
The normal conscious collection will be available in all H&M stores and online. The exclusive collection will only be sold in 150 selected stores worldwide.

The face of the exclusive collection is Amber Valletta and the collection has a lot of boho and flamenco influences.

Underneath are some of my favorite looks. If you really want an extraordinary piece, go for the dark blue red carpet dress, which has already been worn by Miranda Kerr.

REVIEW: Dior Hydra Life Creme Protection SPF15

Since my latest review from the Maybelline Baby lips had so many views, I'm going to try to review one beauty product each week. All the products will be products I use myself so I can give you a real and honest review. Keep in mind that I have an oily skin, so the effect on your skin might be totally different.

Today I'm reviewing the Dior Hydra Life Crème Protection SPF15. This is my day cream and I have been using it for 4 or 5 years now. This  fact alone points out that I'm really pleased about this product. It's a rich-textured, intensely hydrating moisturizer which protects the skin against external aggressors.
Since the weather in Belgium is not that sunny most of the time, this day cream is usually the only sun protection I put on. I have a skin that tans quite rapidly and doesn't get sun burned often, so for me this cream is sufficient.

The product promises to do this:

"This efficient skincare essential offers a true defence barrier against environmental stress, thanks to UVA and UVB filters. To the sight, skin looks spectacularly smoothed and luminous. To the touch, skin texture is reinforced and the face regains its plumpness. As for the experience, enjoy unprecedented comfort."

Firstly about the looks. The skin indeed looks more luminous. The cream gives a nice feeling to your skin. It's for me the perfect match between being not too creamy and being not too dry either. After applying this crème, I can immediately start with putting on my makeup. This is very handy because I only get up 30 minutes before I leave to work so there's not much time to waste. The crème doesn't have any scent at all which I really like for my beauty products.

The cream doesn't include the following products:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

Other information about this product which is interesting to know:

"Dior Innovation Center selects plant resources with amazing benefits. At the heart of the Dior Garden (a protected site that respects mankind and nature) blossoms the secret of breakthrough antiaging hydration: Hydra Life. This trio of pure plant extracts—Jisten, Centella, and Black Rose—offers the powerful benefits of Cellular Bio-Exaltation."

Although I'm not some kind of nature activist, I'm pleased to know that this product is created with consideration for  mother nature.

So what can I say about the packaging? Honestly this is not so important to me. It's nice to have a pretty perfume bottle for example but for skincare products it's subordinate to the quality of the product. The packaging is greenish/blue as the whole Dior Hydralife line. The product comes with a small spatula. This is very important to me because it avoids bacteria in your crème.

In addition to this product, you can use the Hydralife Pro-youth Sorbet Eye Creme as well. I once got a sample at Ici Paris XL and I must admit I was really please about this product as well. Too bad the Dior products are quite expensive. The Hydra Life Creme Protection comes at € 48,00 and the  Hydralife Pro-youth Sorbet Eye Creme comes at € 38,75.

Which day cream do you use? What are important factors for you to buy a certain product?

Beauty Trends spring 2014

Yesterday I showed you my favourite fashion trends for spring. But an outfit is nothing without some decent make-up to lift that outfit up. I really want to try to spice up my make up this season. I usually tend to stick to the same kind of products/colours in contradiction to my clothing style. I don't really know why, I guess it's all about changing my ritual. These are some of the trends I really want to try out this season. Let me know which trend is your favourite!

Little miss orange

The real dare devils go for bright orange this season. If this is too much for you, red or a pastel shades of orange are an option as well. If you really want to be on trend, go for a mat lipstick.

John Galliano
DKNY

Glitter & Gold

If you have been following my blog for a while, you know that gold is my favourite colour. This trend is already in my usual make up ritual. During the Christmas season from 2012 I found this perfect Dior eye shadow palette. I'm a little bit panicking because it's almost empty. But I guess this  season is the right time to move on because this spring it really is all gold that shines.

JC De Castelbajac

Black as the night

This trend is not something new. It seems like the smokey eye will never go out of style again. No wonder, there isn't one beauty trend which is more beautiful, chic and sexy if well done.

Just Cavalli
Chanel eye mascare, check out my review here
Mulberry

Pink glow

Last year it was all about grungy nude, this season it's about girly faces with lots of blush. If you're not afraid to show off a bit you can combine this pink blush with a lipstick in the same shade.

Dolce & Gabanna
Vera Wang

Fashion Trends spring 2014

Spring is right around the corner and this includes a cleaning up your closet and time for some new items. If you want to make your closet spring proof, keep these trends in mind.

Flower power

I don't think this trend needs any explanation. The first thing that pops into mind when you think about spring are of course flowers.
